Opéra Garnier (called such by the name of the architect) is one of three opera houses in Paris, the other two being Opéra Comique and Opéra Bastille. It is not the oldest (that would be Opéra Comique, founded in 1714) and not the largest (Opéra Bastille sits 2,723 people vs Opéra Garnier‘s 1,979 seats), but it is definitely the most beautiful of all three. No wonder it is often called Palais Garnier (Garnier Palace) – it absolutely looks the part.
